We were thrilled to be joined by educators from across Australia to discuss how equity can be embedded in education as part of our latest professional learning webinar.
Professor Lisa Harvey-Smith opened with a powerful story about the role models who sparked her curiosity and sense of belonging in astronomy as a child, and reflected on the learnings that can be drawn from her own experience:
‘Children don’t have to pick STEM as their preferred career from an early age, but it is important that they don’t shut their door on the possibility.’
Then, Cameron Rodgers, STEM innovator and Deputy Principal (Instructional Leadership), shared how Sarah Redfern High School approach STEM – not as standalone subjects that sit in isolation, but as a way of thinking about the world that runs through the entire curriculum at the school.
To close, we threw the floor open to educators through a series of breakout rooms, so that attendees could connect over, learn about and share examples of good practice that ensures equitable STEM education for all.
